Our Q&A series continues with our Manager of the Disputes and Chargebacks Team, Hari Rajan, who is based out of our Hyderabad office. We deeply value our people and the expertise they bring; PXP Financial is the success it is because of our incredible team, and we want you to get to know them too!

We have been lucky to have Hari working with us for close to a decade now. In addition to his position as the Manager of the Disputes and Chargebacks Team, Hari also handles Transaction Risk Monitoring. In this third installment of our Q&A series, we chatted about all things PXP and payments.

Q: What brought you to PXP Financial?

Hari: “I joined PXP Financial back in 2013, which was when their operations commenced in India. I was offered the role of managing the Recovery Team and I accepted without hesitation! Soon after joining, I was given the additional responsibility of managing the Chargeback team.

The opportunity to work for a payments company such as PXP was something I would never pass up. I think the biggest attractors were the immense wealth of knowledge and rich experience I knew I would gain.”

Q: What are your favourite things about working at PXP Financial?

Hari: “It’s hard to choose! I think my favourite things are to do with PXP being such a dynamic company. I find the freedom extended to all employees to learn, explore and contribute meaningfully very encouraging and important. Added to that is simply the amazing people I work with. Everyone has such a positive mindset; it creates a wonderful workplace atmosphere.”

Q: What do you think are the most exciting trends in payments?

Hari: “Payments is a very dynamic industry; innovations are always happening. For me, I think the use of AI and machine learning in the payments industry is a game changer. They’ve not only made risk and monitoring systems more efficient, but they’ve also helped to analyse various payment metrics more efficiently. I really see the potential for AI and machine learning technologies in my work with the disputes and chargebacks team.

I think another really exciting trend in payments is the development of Real Time Payments. This has become increasingly popular and has huge benefits, including increasing the acceptance of digital payments across different geographies.”

Q: What have been the biggest developments in commerce payments over the few years?

Hari: “The payments industry is such a fast-paced space. I'd say contactless payments using mobile phones and wearable devices have without a doubt revolutionised the payments landscape. More recently, I think interesting developments are the use of QR codes to pay. To a large extent, this payment method is replacing cards.

Biometric authentication is another revolutionary development and I think we are barely scratching the surface of what can be achieved using biometrics. Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) is another technology that has entered mainstream usage within commerce payments. It's now such a commonly used payment method.

Payments is a really exciting industry to be working in; there are innovations taking place around every corner! I’m always excited to see what the next developments will be.”

Q: What work-related accomplishment are you most proud of? What would you like to accomplish in the next 5 years?

Hari
: “I think my proudest achievement is revamping the Chargeback Team and contributing to the development of the existing dispute framework. Seeing these things succeed after the amount of work my colleagues and I put into them definitely makes it my proudest accomplishment.

I’m really looking forward to contributing more towards Transaction Monitoring as well. We are constantly trying to improve our system and adapt to changes across the industry and the wider world. The next few years are going to be both challenging and exciting – and I can’t wait to get stuck in!”

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Hari: “I can’t think of any particular advice but there are a couple of things I firmly believe in. The first is the power of teamwork. By working as a team, you can overcome challenges quicker, work more effectively, and ultimately produce better results. It’s also just more enjoyable and the successes definitely mean more when you reach them as a team.

The second thing is remaining positive and focused when you encounter a failure. There is no point in brooding over it. The best thing to do is to put it behind you and focus on coming up with alternative solutions to overcome the challenge. I think staying positive through everything, the highs and the lows, is incredibly important.”

Q: Outside of work, what are your hobbies or favourite things to do?

Hari: “I really love spending time with my family. Our favourite thing to do as a family is probably travelling and going on long drives. Aside from this, I enjoy cooking and watching documentaries about all sorts of things, be it people, places or cars! I also like going on walks; I try to go on one every day to help me stay as fit as I can. Additionally, thanks to my daughter, I never miss a Marvel film or the latest K-Pop songs – she always keeps me up-to-date whether I want to be or not!”
